Governor Pataki Announces 150 New Jobs in Ulster County - Partsearch Technologies Invests $1.3 M in TechCity as Upstate Attracts Another Company
Governor George E. Pataki today announced that Partsearch Technologies, a company serving Best Buy and other major retailers, will establish new operations in Ulster County, creating 150 new jobs for the local economy. Partsearch will lease 15,000 square feet of space in TechCity in the Town of Ulster, and invest $1.3 million to renovate and equip the space into a state-of-the-art call center.
With the competitive global market, we're working harder than ever to market Upstate for business investments and to fight for every new job, Governor Pataki said. When we learned that Partsearch was looking to expand, our economic development team got the job done to ensure that these new jobs would be created right here in Ulster County for Upstate New Yorkers. Partsearch is a two-year old company headquartered in Manhattan with 85 employees. It is an Information Technology company that has developed software and services to make the process of identifying and purchasing model specific replacement parts more accurate and efficient. The rapidly expanding company contacted Empire State Development to help them find an Upstate community to accommodate its growth. Partsearch also considered sites in New Jersey and Canada.
Glenn Laumeister, Chairman and CEO of Partsearch, said, We wanted to locate this call center in a geographic area that offered a highly skilled work force, but was in a area with lower costs than the NYC metro area. Our decision to locate in TechCity was based on their very robust infrastructure, flexibility that offers us room to grow as the company expands, and a location that is still easily accessible to Manhattan. The fact that TechCity was located in an Empire Zone was also a big plus. We look forward to becoming part of the community in Ulster County.
The company will create 50 new customer service agent and part sales specialist jobs immediately and create an additional 100 new jobs during the next three years. The company will also use the services of the local NYS Department of Labor to recruit and train its workforce. Partsearch will maintain its Manhattan headquarters.
Charles A. Gargano, Chairman of Empire State Development, said, According to Site Selection magazine, New York under Governor Pataki has emerged into a national leader in attracting new business investments. Partsearch is another great economic win bringing new jobs and opportunities for Ulster County. We thank Partsearch for investing in the Empire State.
Senator John Bonacic said, "I am pleased to continue to work with Governor Pataki in creating jobs in the Hudson Valley."
Assemblyman Kevin Cahill said, "Ulster County is perfectly situated to attract new businesses like Partsearch. Our Empire Zone and our commitment to quality schools that provide a well-educated workforce foster the perfect business environment. I look forward to helping more companies locate and expand here to create good-paying jobs for our families."
Richard A. Gerentine, Chairman, Ulster County Legislature, said, We are thrilled Governor Pataki's hard efforts have helped us in Ulster County. Partsearch Technologies will create 150 new jobs and spend $1.3 million to renovate its space in TechCity. We are thankful for the boost this will give to the local economy."
Frederick J. Wadnola, Supervisor, Town of Ulster said, The Town of Ulster is delighted that Partsearch Technologies has selected TechCity as the site to expand its new operations to Ulster County. We appreciate the efforts of Governor Pataki and the Empire Zone to attract new jobs to our area."
Partsearch was created to provide a more efficient means for major retailers and other service providers to provide replacement parts and accessories for their customers. Partsearch maintains a vast online Master Parts Catalog - a virtual parts inventory of over 15 million SKUs- from hundreds of manufacturers in the consumer electronics, computer, appliance and cellular categories. The company uses the catalog to identify the correct part, and then locate the part among their network of suppliers and arrange for shipment to the customer without ever actually handling the product. The March issue of Site Selection magazine reported that New York, despite tough economic times, remains at a solid 3rd in the nation in attracting new and expanded corporate facilities. In 2002 New York attracted 812 expansions, compared with only 75 in 1994 when the State placed 20th.
In consideration of its commitment to the New York State economy, Partsearch is eligible to apply for a $200,000 capital grant from ESD. The company is investing within the Ulster County Empire Zone, making it eligible for approximately $990,000 in wage tax credits.
